Da Hui Friends

Our Baby Hui group started meeting 2 years ago. Half our original group gets together still, every so often. These kids are just tickled when we get together.

Only one other mommy besides me isn't local. The rest have taught me so much about local culture. We spend lots of time "talking story." When the kids were much tinier we usually met somewhere with four walls. Now, the kids play by themselves and we get more time to talk more story. It took a little while for us to gel since we come from different social and cultural backgrounds, but I am so grateful for these mamas. They loved on me during my pregnancy and after, too. They taught me much of what I needed to know when I was still new on the island. And our group is a warm group. We laugh so hard our sides hurt when we are together. Two years ago I never thought our group would ripen like this. Sometimes things turn out so much sweeter than I imagine.
