The Holiday in Hawaii

Recently, Hubby and I watched The Holiday, starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet. The movie centers around two women who trade homes in Los Angeles and the English countryside over the Christmas holiday. So we got to thinking and started looking online about trading our home in Hawaii for a place in southern CA during June. Then we got to thinking that maybe somebody we know might want to trade. Voila! Blog Post!

Before my mother absolutely thinks I am a complete nut and the phone rings, YES I am going to consider my IRL (In Real Life) friends first. If either my own extended family or my in laws want to try and trade, that is fine. If you don't have a place in Southern CA but you have a timeshare or access to alternative lodging in CA, we are interested. This is not a guarantee we will trade, it just means we are interested. If you are not an IRL friend, but still want to trade, we will consider it!

So here is the deal. We are looking at the last two weeks in June, sometime. We don't need a place the whole time, but at least a week would be great. We would prefer not to trade cars, since we will be getting a rental car in CA.

About our house: 4 beds/3 full bath, with 1 bedroom and full bath on the main level. One room does have a crib upstairs, if needed. We don't wear shoes in our home, as no one does in Hawaii, and expect the same of our guests. We are located in Central Oahu in a lovely planned community, about 20 minutes from the airport. I can give you way more info on my house, but you'll have to let me know you are serious, post a comment, or send me an email. There are several pictures of our home all over our blog that will help. We are one exit from Costco, and have easy highway access. Now, if you want to trade, have nothing to offer in Southern CA, but have some other vacation spot to offer, we might consider that for the future, too. All you can do is ask, and we just might say yes!

Here are some past posts that show parts of our house here and here.

  1. You sure you don't want to trade your home in one of the most desirous vacation spots in the U.S. for a quaint, cozy, kid friendly townhouse in the busily populated suburbs right outside of Washington DC ;)?

  3. We live in Cancun,Mexico in a beautiful house on the beach. My husband (same as you) had the idea of trading our house for vacation and asked me to find a way to do this through internet, It is funny that I just started to do it and found some one else with the same idea. We are not ready to do this for June though. But I´d like to know your experience if you get to do this. In the meanwhile I´ll keep looking. good luck!
