Finally, Mama, here I am. I also remember that day as a teacher with my middle school students. They kept asking why kids were being picked up early, some even asked about an alien attack. I'm not sure if I ever told you about this but YOU were one of the first people who came to my mind. When the initial reports started coming in they said a plane hit the state dept. For some reason I thought hubby worked there (did I make that up?) I was very concerned about you all. It was such a confusing day around here, wasn't it? Today was my daughter's first day of (pre)school for the year and it helped lift the shadow that always hangs over on this day. :)
Wow. It means a lot that you thought of us, because you know the intensity of being in NoVA. No, he doesn't work for the state dept. But his work did require him to go to the Pentagon now and then. After 9-11 he attended each morning briefing at the Pentagon for a long time. And he used to take the exact United flight from Reagan to CA (Flight77, I think) when we lived in CA. It was all so eery. We will remember and Never Forget.
I am the mother of three active and affectionate little boys, ages 6, 3, and 1. They are truly gifts. I love life as a boy mom. I am honored that God has called me to raise future husbands. I hope they grow up to be just like their daddy, Dr. Romance. We met in an elevator in college. He has a PhD in Something Important, but I call him Dr. Romance. We were married on the Fourth of July twelve years ago just so we could call those fireworks "ours." We are living in the Boston area through June, while Dr.Romance is working at Harvard. We call ourselves the "uncommons" as a play on the Boston Common site, because we are from the land of palm trees and all things laid back. I hold a B.A. in History from UCLA, a teaching credential from CSUN, and an M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision from UVA. Those are my lesser accomplishments. Most importantly I love Jesus.
I think I read that when I stalked your blog from the beginning but it again made me CRY!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely remembrance post. I'm teary now.
