Aloha Friday at the Farmer Files

Fridays are the days we take it easy in Hawaii. We call it Aloha Friday, much like what folks on the mainland call TGIF. An Island Life hosts the Aloha Friday meme. So I am going to play along. I post a question, y'all comment. That's it. You don't have to do the meme, you just have to post your answer here! So here is my question:
Do you love camping with your family? Why or why not?
Wanna know what inspired us? Read here.

  1. as a family, we've never been. But I can say I like prepping, and the experience, but I hate going home...all the clean up. ick!

  2. Our family LOVED to go camping. We tented for many many years. Before I retired, we bought a 21 foot motorhome and drove it from Ohio to Vancouver Island one summer. (I was a teacher and hubby was retired). A few years later we bought a 34' motorhome and drove to Nova Scotia, Vancouver, Colorado, California etc on different vacations. Now I agree motorhoming isn't real camping but we still had campfires, ate outside and enjoyed the camplife. I miss it.

  3. I have never been with THIS Husband or the boys...well as a matter of fact I never went with the FIRST husband either..LOL BUT I did camp with MY PARENTS and other family members growing UP and I HATED IT...I am NOT a very good CAMPER..or roughing it sort of girl. I think the ECONO LODGE OR MOTEL 6 is about as much roughing it that I can handle! HOWEVER MY HUSBAND.....LOVED camping and infact was just wondering what happened to HIS TENT! (the tenthe and HIS long time other girlfriend bought and camped in together).....so that he could take all of us since the weather is getting cooler....well that tent has been MIA since he was deployed...but I forgot to mention that to him...HMMMM I guess we lost it in the MOVE! HE has been eyeing tents over at the BASS PRO SHOP for weeks now. I am not however enthused or amused by this camping thingy he has in mind. OK so a long answer to your question but you GET ME!

  4. I used to love camping with my dad's family when I was a kid. Now the idea of taking my kids out and not being able to clean them or use electricity makes me shake a little. Maybe when they're older.

  5. I always loved camping... now with four kids I can sure appreciate the work and planning it takes that i was oblivious to as a kid!!

We took our boys camping to Yosemite and they loved it! Now the girls are getting a little older, so I think maybe next year...

  6. We haven't gone as a family yet, we kept being out of town for TM ones. We're excited to try it but I have to say I'm not really so thrilled about bugs being that close up in our business :)

  8. I would think my little one would like camping but I'm not so sure after his reaction to sand at the beach. I would have never guessed that he would be such a princess and the pea about getting his feet dirty!

  9. You already know my answer! I was hoping we could go camping again this weekend but the rain stopped us. Maybe next weekend.

  11. Nope, not happening!!
I am not much of a camper, and at least I know this, so I don't attempt to go and ruin everyone else's time! Just not my cup of tea

  14. When I was a little girl my family 'trailer camped,' which I don't think of as Real Camping but, on the other hand, I remember one trip when we saw 96 bears in 2 days, so I didn't resent being in a trailer! I tent camped with my ex, and then with my kids a few times, but my vacations were rare and few in those days. If I had it to do all over again, I would take a lot more family trips with my children. The brats grew up and moved away, and of course I have lots of time for them now. :(

  16. We just got BACK, from the trip I haven't blogged about, yet. Let me tell y'all I had the Barbie Motorhome back in the day, and now I can see why Barbie called that camping. If it was good enough for Barbie, it is good enough for me. I don't think she ever stayed in a tent or a cabin. At least my parents didn't let me think so! Ha! In all seriousness, we had a good time and you're going to have to wait to read all about it!

  18. we haven't been camping yet as a family, we are newly married, but we have campfires in our backyard. Does that count?

I lived in a tent for several months when I was 5. My dad was going to school far away so my mom decided to take us all to be closer. All 7 of us stayed at a campsite without running water in a 10x10 tent. Some of my favorite memories are of those days.

When my children, now adults, were small I took them camping a few times. Each time there was a lightening storm. We quit going.

  19. I hate to admit this, but my kind of camping is at a nice hotel! I have not been camping since I was in Girl Scouts when I was younger. I have no real desire to try it while my little guy is still in diapers either.

    Have a great weekend!

  20. I love camping and I have ever since I went backpacking as a teenager. I only went on one holiday with my parents when I was growing up. It was very important to me for my children to have a vacation to write about when they went back to school after summer break and were asked to write a paper about what they did during the summer. As a child I never had anything to write. We took our kids camping to many of the National Parks and too, every year we would spend at least one week camping at Doheny Beach State Park. Our last camping trip was to Yosemite NP with our oldest son (who loves camping) and his family.

  21. I grew up going camping with my folks and loved it - and we aren't talking the log cabin kind of camping we are talking the tent kind.

Although we have had all the gear to go since our 1 year anniversary, we still have yet to go. I chalk it up to Abe's Army days of being light infantry - the great outdoors just doesn't seem to appeal to him the way it does to me.

Maybe by the time we hit our 15 year he'll be far enough removed from those to days to indulge me ;)!

  22. I love camping! My family used to camp a lot when I was growing up. We haven't taken the boys camping yet though. Our twins are prone to wandering so we were afraid to have them in an unfamiliar place where they might sneak out of the tent and wander off. BUT they are 7 now and I think they understand not to do that, and our 3-yr-old is always attached to me so we don't worry so much about him wandering off. We are in process of buying up some camping supplies so we can take the crew out for their first camping trip in the spring :). By then Little Bitty will be 4 and our twins will be almost 8.

  23. ok if i lived in hawaii i would probably love camping out. here in the midwest, not so much. i like it warm and i need my own toilet, so camping in a tent is not my fav. i love camping in a camper...spoiled, i know! but, if i ever make it to Oahu, i promise to camp out!

  24. I LOVED my Barbie Motorhome and BARBIE BOAT! Maybe that is why I can not tent camp...I want the MOTORHOME that Barbie used! I know MY BARBIE never Tented CAMPED. I am dying to read YOUR story!

  25. I grew up going camping. I LOVE IT!! I haven't gone with the kids yet, but I think we are going to try next summer. There is nothing like waking up to the smell of the Redwoods in Northern Cal.

  26. My hubby and his family love camping! We have camped in tents, cabins, and rv's. One of my favorite places is up along the Klamath River in NorCal, where he loves to fish for salmon - with the campground right next to the river.

  27. We've never been camping as a family, but we really want to go!

  28. We absolutely love to go camping with the kids. You can always find us at Bellows during the summer. There's nothing like hanging out on the beach all day and sleeping under the stars at night!

  29. I love camping... haven't done it yet as a "family" as we just had our little one, but my hubby and I like to go multiple times a year, and it's much more fun with another couple. This year we went with my parents and siblings and it was a blast... although difficult in some ways being 36 weeks pregnant!

  30. Yes, Yes, YES!!! We can't wait till our baby is a little older so we can go again. Hubby and I have camped together from the very beginning of our relationship. (Ahh good stories for a night of Mexican Train.... )

Once the kiddeos came along our supply list tripled but it was well worth it! Oh and by the way our sleeping bags zip together...... :) DP
